Wedding day do’s and don’ts for your hair and skin

Prepping your skin and hair before your wedding day is crucial for looking and feeling your best on your big day. Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind to get the most out of your hair and skin as well as your wedding morning.

On the day:

Do’s:

  • Have clean skin, free of makeup
  • Apply your normal skin care including spf
  • Wash your hair the day before

Don’ts:

  • Arrive with makeup on
  • Try new products
  • Arrive with wet hair unless blow-dry discussed

Do’s for Skin Prep:

  1. Start Early: Begin your skincare routine well in advance, ideally at least three months before the wedding day. This allows time for your skin to adjust to new products and treatments.
  2. Consult a Dermatologist: If you have specific skin concerns like acne, pigmentation, or dryness, seek professional advice. A dermatologist can recommend suitable treatments and products tailored to your skin type.
  3. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
  4. Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize: Follow a regular skincare routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Use products suitable for your skin type.
  5. Exfoliate: Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, revealing fresh, glowing skin. Incorporate a gentle exfoliator into your routine once or twice a week.
  6. Use SPF: Protect your skin from UV damage by wearing sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher.

Don’ts for Skin Prep:

  1. Avoid Last-Minute Experiments: Don’t try new skincare products or treatments too close to the wedding day. Stick to what you know works well for your skin.
  2. Don’t Over-Exfoliate: While exfoliation is beneficial, too much can irritate your skin. Stick to the recommended use for your exfoliating product.
  3. Limit Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure, especially during peak hours (10 am to 4 pm), to prevent sunburn and skin damage.
  4. Don’t Skip Moisturizer: Even if you have oily skin, moisturizing is essential to maintain skin balance and hydration levels.
  5. Avoid Harsh Products: Steer clear of harsh scrubs or products containing alcohol, as they can strip your skin of essential oils and cause irritation.

Do’s for Hair Prep:

  1. Schedule Hair Treatments Early: Plan haircuts, colour treatments, and any hair conditioning treatments well in advance. This allows time for adjustments and avoids last-minute stress.
  2. Deep Conditioning Treatments: Treat your hair to regular deep conditioning treatments to keep it nourished and healthy. Consider incorporating a hair mask once a week.
  3. Protect from Heat Styling: Use heat protectant sprays or serums before using hot styling tools.
  4. Choose the Right Hairstyle: Work with your hairstylist to choose a wedding hairstyle that complements your dress, face shape, and overall wedding theme.
  5. Trial Run: Schedule a trial hair session with your stylist to test out different hairstyles and ensure you’re happy with the final look.

Don’ts for Hair Prep:

  1. Avoid Over-Styling: Limit heat styling and excessive brushing to prevent hair breakage and damage.
  2. Don’t Skip Trims: Regular trims every 6-8 weeks help prevent split ends and keep your hair looking healthy.
  3. Avoid Drastic Changes: Avoid drastic hair colour or cut changes too close to the wedding day.
  4. Avoid Heavy Products: Steer clear of heavy styling products that can weigh your hair down or make it look greasy.
  5. Don’t Wash Hair Daily: Washing your hair daily can strip it of natural oils, leading to dryness. Aim to wash every 2-3 days or as needed.

Remember, consistency is key, so start early and stay on track, you’ll be well on your way to looking and feeling your best! Cheers to a beautiful and memorable wedding day!
